ABOUT LAST NIGHT... The Sea Dogs mustered three hits in a 5-2 loss to the Fisher Cats on Thursday night. Johanfran Garcia broke up a no-hitter with an RBI double in the sixth inning, driving in Ronald Rosario. Rosario ran out an infield single, and Miguel Bleis hit an RBI single in the ninth inning, the lone hits of the night. The Fisher Cats ran away with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Dub Gleed, his second of the week.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS The Sea Dogs' 15 runs scored on Wednesday were their highest in a game all season, surpassing their previous season high of 13 runs. It was their 17th game with three or more home runs this season. Since at least 2005, the Sea Dogs have never hit three or more home runs in a game more than 13 times in a season, last done in 2022.
LOOK OUT FOR LIENDO Ahbram Liendo is on a five-game hit streak and a 15-game on-base streak. Liendo has reached base in 42 of his last 46 games dating back to May 29th, including a season-high 25 game on-base streak (5/29-7/2). Since May 29th, Liendo is batting .300 (39-for-157) with an .873 OPS. He has 33 RBI, seven doubles, five home runs, 22 walks and 11 stolen bases in that span.
McDONOUGH'S RETURN Utility player Tyler McDonough is the first Sea Dog since at least 2005 to hit two home runs in a single inning. McDonough was three-for-five with five RBI on Wednesday, following up his excellent first week back in Portland last week. In his first eight games since his return to Portland on July 28th, McDonough is batting .357 (10-for-28) with a double, three home runs, 11 RBI, six walks and five steals. He has a .486 on-base percentage and a 1.200 OPS.
WALKIN' WILL TURNER Will Turner recorded his 69th walk of the season on Thursday. He is the Eastern League leader in that category, and 3rd best in Double-A despite spending two weeks of the season on the injured list. Turner has played just 74 games, while the two Double-A players with more walks than Turner have played 99 and 84 games respectively.
DEADLINE DAMAGE RHP Anthony Eyanson, previously the top pitching prospect in the Red Sox organization, was one of four prospects dealt to the Orioles in a trade for catcher Adley Rutschman, alongside Red Sox catcher Carlos Narváez.
FRAIZER IS FOR REAL Outfielder Matt Fraizer is five-for-eight with three doubles and eight RBI in his last two games for Portland. Six of his eight RBI in those games have come with two-outs. Fraizer has played just 22 games in Portland after joining the team late due to injury, but he currently leads the team in batting average (.320) and is tied with Brooks Brannon for best OPS on the team (.914).
RUN UP THE SCORE The Sea Dogs are 13-26 overall and 5-17 in road games where they score three or fewer runs. They are 41-23 overall and 22-10 in road games where they score four or more runs.
THIS DAY IN SEA DOGS HISTORY August 8, 1999 - After a three-and-a-half-hour rain delay at Hadlock Field, pitchers Brad Penny (6 IP) and Luis Arroyo (3 IP) combine to toss the first no-hitter in franchise history as Portland defeated the Trenton Thunder 3-0.
ON THE MOUND LHP Devin Futrell (NR) makes his Double-A debut for Portland today after being assigned to Double-A on August 4. In 2026, he has split his time between Single-A Salem and High-A Greenville, but spent most of the season in Greenville. For the Drive, he went 5-1 with a 4.22 ERA in 15 games (12 starts). Overall, he allowed 35 runs on 73 hits in 74.2 innings pitched with 85 strikeouts. Futrell played three season of college baseball at Vanderbilt University, and was drafted by the Red Sox in the 10th round of the 2024 first year players draft.
