Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery tied 1-1 with the Seattle Sounders Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 4,324. The Battery took the lead through Louie Rolko in first half but Seattle fought back and scored a goal in stoppage time to earn a point.
The Battery almost scored in the first minute after Seattle failed to clear the ball in the six yard box. Forward Randi Patterson was first to the loose ball but his shot was saved off the line.
2007 USL1 MVP Sebastian Le Toux found himself one on one with Battery goalkeeper Dusty Hudock in the 14th minute. Le Toux tried to slot the ball into the right corner but Hudock made a good save to deny the goal.
Charleston broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. Forward Aaron King set the ball across to Rolko twenty yards out. Rolko ran onto the pass and lashed a shot past goalkeeper Chris Eyelander into the top right corner of the goal.
The game turned in the 62nd minute after the Battery were awarded a penalty for a tackle on Patterson. Mike Richardson took the kick but his effort was well saved by a diving Eyelander.
Seattle were spurred on and enjoyed long spells of possession as Charleston defended. The Battery did create a chance in the 89th minute but again Eyelander made a good save denying Darren Spicer from ten yards out.
The equalizer came after Battery right-back Tim Velten conceded a free-kick at the half-way line. Seattle pumped the ball into the box and it was clear by Charleston. Midfielder Kenji Treschuk intercepted the clearance and hammered a shot home.
Charleston travels to Cary, NC next Saturday night for a 7:30 PM game versus the Carolina RailHawks.
