Seattle Reign FC Forward Megan Rapinoe Voted NWSL Player of the Month

April 4, 2018 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO - Seattle Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month by the NWSL Media Association for the month of March of the 2018 NWSL season.

Rapinoe, 32, earned NWSL Player of the Week honors for her performance in Week 1 that saw her register a goal and an assist to lead the Reign to a 2-1 home victory over the Washington Spirit on March 24 in the only game of the month for Seattle.

The Redding, Calif. native opened the scoring in the 7th minute of the match with a sensational free kick that she curled past Washington goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe into the top left corner of the net. The goal was the 28th of her NWSL career - moving her into a tie with Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan and former Portland Thorns FC and Sky Blue FC striker Nadia Nadim for seventh all-time.

The U.S. international added an assist on the game-winning goal in the 35th minute when she played a well-weighted pass into the path of Jodie Taylor for the new Reign acquisition to stroke home from 11-yards out.

Rapinoe played the full 90 minutes and had 11 shots (6 on target) as well as a team-high 85 touches.

It is the second time Rapinoe has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Month - after claiming the award for July of the 2017 season - and the sixth time a Reign player has won the award. She is the seventh player to earn the accolade on multiple occasions.

Rapinoe (32 years, 8 months, 29 days) is the fourth oldest player voted NWSL Player of the Month behind Christine Sinclair, who did it twice - at 33 years, 2 months, 19 days and 33 years, 0 months, 18 days - as well as Carli Lloyd (33 years, 0 months, 15 days). It is just the seventh time out of the 28 NWSL Player of the Month awards that a player over the age of 30 has earned the honor.

Seattle Reign FC will return to action against Sky Blue FC on Sunday, April 15 at Yurcak Field at 5 p.m. ET as the NWSL picks back up again following the international break.

The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
