SeatGeek Becomes Presenting Sponsor of Major League Soccer

Published on September 19, 2016 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

New York, NY and Blaine, MN - SeatGeek and Major League Soccer (MLS) announced today an innovative partnership whereby SeatGeek will become the Presenting Sponsor of MLS's National Sales Center (NSC). As part of the partnership, SeatGeek and NSC staff will jointly develop curriculum modules to educate NSC trainees on the latest trends and best practices in the ticketing industry.

The six-year-old NSC officially becomes the MLS National Sales Center powered by SeatGeek.

"The National Sales Center is an incredible training ground for the next generation of industry leaders in Major League Soccer, so we're thrilled to support the mission of the center through our partnership," said SeatGeek EVP of Client Partnerships Jeff Ianello. "The ways that consumers buy tickets are changing rapidly, and the ways in which we sell tickets to consumers must keep pace with that change - making the need for advanced curriculum on emerging trends in ticketing all the more crucial for young executives."

Founded in 2010, the NSC is the pre-eminent sales training program for young sports professionals. The four-month curriculum is designed to bolster the communications and problem-solving skills of trainees, with the aim of preparing them to step directly into ticket sales roles at MLS clubs. Since the program's inception, more than 200 NSC graduates have transitioned into sales roles with all 20 MLS clubs as well as teams in other sports.

In the coming months, SeatGeek and NSC staff will develop new training modules that dive deeper into emerging trends and topics in ticketing, including the secondary market, dynamic pricing and consumer ticket buying trends and patterns. SeatGeek will also facilitate hands-on training with the new SeatGeek open primary ticketing platform, which will launch with MLS club Sporting Kansas City in Spring 2017.

"We are excited to continue to bolster the curriculum we have created at the NSC," said Bryant Pfeiffer, Vice President of Club Services, MLS. "We aspire to blend traditional sales fundamentals with new technologies in the ticketing world. We are constantly asking 'What does the sales room of the future look like?' We are excited to leverage the expertise of SeatGeek's leaders to expose trainees to the ever-changing complexities of the ticketing industry."

SeatGeek's partnership with the NSC comes on the heels of the company's broader partnership with Major League Soccer to become the league's Official Ticketing Partner, announced this past July. The multi-year partnership agreement is focused on the development of a new, radically open ticketing platform that will be made available to all clubs.
