The Rockies team and their crew would like to thank all of the fans and everyone of Casper for their spirit and support. Thank you and we will see you next year!
DANNY TETZLAFF NAMED PRESIDENT / GENERAL MANAGER OF THE CASPER ROCKIES
The Casper Rockies Professional Baseball Club announced today the resignation of President / General Manager Mary Schmidt from the ballclub. Taking her place will be Danny Tetzlaff who is being promoted from his current position as Assistant General Manager / Director of Corporate Sales as of October 1st.
Schmidt, who has just completed her fourth season with the Casper Rockies and eighth season in professional baseball, is expecting her first child in November. Schmidt's resignation marks the end of a long-standing working relationship with Casper Rockies CEO Kevin Haughian. "It has been my pleasure working with Kevin for the past seven years. I am grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to come to Casper and work on building a franchise from the ground up," stated Schmidt. "I would also like to thank the many season ticket holders, business community, host families and the City of Casper for the support and assistance that I personally have received the past four years.
Schmidt started her baseball career with the Independent Tri-City Posse of the Western Baseball League in 1997. From Pasco, Washington she relocated to Lake Elsinore, CA where she started a three year stint with the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League.
Tetzlaff will be heading into his 5th year in affiliated professional baseball. The upcoming 2005 season will be his 4th year working in Casper with the Casper Rockies. Tetzlaff has focused on gaining new sponsors and corporate partners during his time in Casper. He spent 2002 as the Assistant General Manager with the "AA" affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, the New Haven Ravens in New Haven, CT.
"I am thrilled that our owner, Kevin Haughian, has extended this opportunity with the Casper Rockies to me," stated Tetzlaff. "I hope to continue to expand upon the foundation that has been built during our first 4 years in Casper. With all the support we've received from the City of Casper, our season ticket holders, our numerous corporate partners, and the Casper community, I can only see a long, bright future for the Casper Rockies organization. I am extremely grateful to be a part of that on-going success as we continue to make the Casper Rockies an integral part of the Casper community."
Tetzlaff will focus on increasing season ticket sales for the 2005 season, as well as gaining more support from the corporate community throughout Wyoming.
CASPER'S DEDUNO GARNERS ANOTHER HONOR
The Colorado Rockies organization has named Casper right-handed starting pitcher Samuel Deduno as its Pitcher of the Month for August. This means Deduno was deemed the best pitcher in August out of all six minor league teams in the Colorado Rockies farm system.
Deduno, who has already captured Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year honors, was 4-1 with a 2.84 ERA in six August starts. He walked just 11 batters and managed 52 strikeouts in 31.2 innings. Deduno has the second best ERA in the Pioneer League (3.06) and continues to dominate the entire league in the strikeouts category with a current total of 112 strikeouts in 70.2 innings. Casper's left-handed starting pitcher Franklin Morales is second in the league with 82 strikeouts.
21-year-old Deduno is from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic and was acquired by the Colorado Rockies as a free agent in 2001.
In addition to Deduno, Colorado Springs Sky Sox first baseman Brad Hawpe was named Player of the Month for August.
Tonight will be the last chance for Casper fans to catch Deduno in action. He will be the starting pitcher in this evening's 7:05pm game between the Casper Rockies and Provo Angels.
