Each and every year we are overwhelmed with the amazing support that you, the fans, show our team. On behalf of the Chicago Slaughter players, coaches and front office staff, we want to send a huge thank you to our fans for helping make our season on and off the field, a huge success.
On Field
After a slow start in the first half of the season, the Slaughter put together a 5-2 run to end the season going 3-1 at home. This started at the April 21st home game against the Green Bay Blizzards that ended with a perfectly timed pass with : 21 to go that lead to a PAT ending an amazing come from behind effort to win the game. The Slaughter took this momentum to their next away game at Lehigh Valley, who the Slaughter had previously lost to at home earlier in the season. The Slaughter had their revenge pulling out a 54-51 win and looked towards their next 2 game home stand. On May 5th, the Slaughter took over the Cedar Rapids Titians to win 41-38, coming back from a 38-34 deficit. The Reading Express was next to challenge the Slaughter's winning streak. The Slaughter and their fans celebrated Sarge's birthday and Military Appreciation May 18th with a big win. After getting out ahead in the first half, the Slaughter watched the Express slowly chip away at their lead but in the end, there was not enough time. The Slaughter won 67-50 and looked on to their last two away games still ahead. The Slaughter went 1-1 on the road losing to the Bloomington Edge 43-62 but quickly bounced back winning over the Reading Express 46-40. The season ended in dramatic fashion losing to the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks 54-53 in double overtime.
Off Field
Off the field, the Slaughter was able to give back to many charities this season. The Slaughter hosted toy drives to benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children, hosted two drives to benefit the Military overseas through Operation Care Package, and hosted a book drive to benefit children though Little City Foundation.
The road to the United Bowl continues this weekend with the Conference Championship games. The winners will advance to the United Bowl.
