Johnstown Chiefs News Release

The weekend is quickly approaching and we are creeping closer and closer to the start of the 2009-10 ECHL season. Only 93 days remain! Even though it is the middle of the summer, close to 80 Chiefs season ticket holders turned out for our Town Hall Meeting at Ace's Lounge to discuss what has been going on with the team this offseason and share ideas for the upcoming campaign. Ace's, and the Johnstown Chiefs Fan Club, were more than gracious in helping us put on the event by providing food and drink for the attendees.

The meeting began with a welcome from Ray Schmitt, the team's radio voice, who in turn introduced the members of the Chiefs in attendance. The first to address the crowd was President/CEO of Arena United Solutions Team, Scott Branovan. Branovan spoke about the implications of privatization of the Cambria County War Memorial, and gave an update on the ownership situation of the team. Next up were Chiefs Vice President/General Manager Bill Bredin and Director of Sales Chris Catanzaro. The pair took time to talk about the Chiefs' improved schedule for the 2009-10 season and some of the promotions that the team has planned for this season. Things took a break from front office aspects after that.

Coach Ian Herbers got some rare face time with the fans who regularly fill the seats to watch his team play. The season ticket holders in attendance were very interested to hear about how Herbers' recruiting efforts have been going this summer. Furthering their excitement was the coach's statement that many core players from last season's team were eager to return to Johnstown and bring the city its first Kelly Cup. The fans took advantage of the opportunity to ask Herbers about how the Chiefs' affiliations work and why the team seems to score more in the second period, among other things. After Herbers finished, Ray Schmitt got back up to talk to everyone briefly about the Referral Rewards Program, and then the meeting wound down with an open forum where fans shared ideas on a wide range of subjects.

The Chiefs would again like to thank The Ace's Lounge and the Johnstown Chiefs Fan Club for providing the venue and refreshments for the meeting. A big thanks goes out, as well, to the season ticket holders who made for a great turnout and shared their ideas with the team. Based on the success of last night's meeting, the Chiefs are planning to schedule more town hall meetings in the future.

For those interested in becoming a part of the action and buying season tickets, more information can be found at www.johnstownchiefs.com/tickets/seasonal/ or by calling 814-539-1799. We look forward to seeing you around the rink and remember, Johnstown is Chiefstown!
