New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS (November 18, 2013) - The New Orleans VooDoo would like to congratulate Congressman-elect and VooDoo season ticket holder Vance McAllister on his victory in Saturday's special election.
Front row VooDoo season ticket holder and political newcomer Vance McAllister was elected Saturday as Louisiana's newest member of Congress with the backing of the popular "Duck Dynasty" TV family.
After an October contest with more than a dozen candidates from both political parties, McAllister advanced to this weekend's election where he defeated Sen. Neil Riser with 60% of the vote. The seat in Louisiana's 5th Congressional District was left open when GOP Rep. Rodney Alexander resigned this summer to take a Cabinet post in GOP Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration.
"My winning the runoff in the Louisiana 5th Congressional District election was a lot like the VooDoo coming back to New Orleans in 2011: we both experienced a 'Resurrection' from the ashes of stuff in Louisiana," said Congressman Vance McAllister. "The VooDoo and I had to fight through some old style Louisiana political and sports strongholds, but we're both moving forward now to make things in our state even better. I can't wait to watch the VooDoo in the Graveyard from my front row seats in March!"
As the VooDoo resurrected from the ashes in 2011, the first season ticket holder on the list was Vance McAllister. He is a loyal member of the VooDoo family and aided in the appearance of Duck Dynasty's Jase and Missy Robertson during the VooDoo vs. Barnstormers game last season.
McAllister will take office in time to vote on the next round of budget resolutions and a vote soon after on whether to raise the nation's borrowing limit.
