(ALTOONA, PA) â Curve fans will once again have the opportunity to meet past, present and future Curve players this Holiday season as part of the team's "Meet and Greet" series, which will begin next Thursday, November 11, at the Curve Stockyard location at the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona.
Kicking off the Curve's 2004 "Meet and Greet" series will be former Curve standout and Pittsburgh Pirates' starting pitcher Sean Burnett. Burnett will sign free autographs and meet with fans from 7-8 PM next Thursday.
Burnett, the Pirates' 1st round selection in the 2000 June draft, quickly moved through the Bucs' organization and spent the entire 2003 season with Altoona, posting a 14-6 record and 3.21 ERA in 27 starts. His outstanding season earned him the Curve's 2003 Most Valuable Player Award, as well as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year Award.
After beginning the 2004 season at Triple-A Nashville, Burnett made his major league debut in late May and went on to make 13 starts for the Pirates, compiling a 5-5 record and 5.02 ERA before his season was cut short in August after tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. Burnett underwent reconstructive "Tommy John" surgery on his pitching elbow on September 22nd and is expected to make a full recovery, though he will miss the entire 2005 season.
Other "Meet and Greet" sessions are currently being planned and will be announced when officially scheduled.
The Curve Stockyard location at the Logan Valley Mall is located on the first level of the mall near Kaufmann's and will be open during regular mall hours through the end of December.
The Curve Stockyard carries a full line of team merchandise, including authentic gear, hats, jackets, sweatshirts, novelty items and much more.
