Florida Seals News Release
[KISSIMMEE, Fla.] -The Seals continued their hot ways on Tuesday night with a 5-2 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears at the Silver Spurs Arena. The win moved the Seals within two points of second place.
Florida has very high success when they score first and they made sure that continued as Steve Zoryk netted his team leading 14th goal just 36-seconds into the game. Knoxville made some noise as Curtis Menzul tied the game on the potent Ice Bear power play.
The Seals would take command and get all the right bounces the rest of the night. John Gurskis gave the Seals the lead back for good at the 15:38 mark of the opening frame. With the Seals on a two man advantage, Gurskis attempted to pass the puck across the slot, but ended up with the puck on his stick after the shot was blocked. Knoxville goalie James Ronayne overplayed the puck and gave Gurskis an open net to deposit the puck in.
With just a few seconds remaining in the period an unlikely candidate sent the Seals to the locker room with a two goal cushion. Andrew Katzberg scored for the second time this season on a nice give-and-go with Rob Sich.
Florida showed Knoxville something out of the ordinary in the second period. The middle frame was full of power play chances, open ice hockey, and very little physical play. Most people would assume the Ice Bears would dominate this style of play, but on Tuesday night the Seals enjoyed the open style of play. The lone Seals goal of the middle period came shorthanded from Art Mnatsakanov. It was a league leading sixth shorthanded goal of the season for the team and fourth game in a row the Seals have scored a man down.
The teams each scored a goal in the third period. The win continues to set a league season high for consecutive wins and the Seals have now won six in a row on their home ice.
Thursday the Seals will square off against the Huntsville Havoc at the Von Braun Center. The puck drops at 8:05 pm. Saturday the Seals will visit their rival in North Florida for a 7:05 pm game. Both games can be heard locally on 1190 WAMT and around the world at www.wamt1190.com.
