Seals High Five Their Way To Victory

Florida Seals News Release

[KISSIMMEE, Fla.] -For some people birthdays are just another day on the calendar and for others they celebrate them in style. John Gurskis scored two power play goals to lead his team to a 5-0 victory just one day after he turned the big 30.

Gurskis started his big night just 2:21 into the game when he took a Lawne Snyder rebound and put it past goalie Chad Rycroft for the 1-0 lead. The Seals went back on the power play four minutes later and déjà vu. After a Snyder pass and a David Deeves shot, Gurskis once again calmly put a rebound to the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season.

Defensively the Seals (9-5-4) played their finest game of the year. The defenseman blocked numerous Columbus (5-8-3) attempts helping goalie Terry Denike to his second career shutout. It was the first time this year the Seals have shutout an opponent. The Cottonmouths only mustered 15 shots on net, a season low for Florida opponents.

The second and third periods barely saw shots on net. The final 40 minutes only featured 20 shots combined by both teams. After a scoreless second period the Seals put the Snakes away for good in the final frame.

Rob Sich scored his fourth goal of the year as the rookie was on his way to a two point night. Halfway through the middle frame Craig Geerlinks fired a shot from the high circle to light the lamp for the first time this season. Not to be outdone by the fellow young guns, second year forward Dominick Dawes found the back of the net for the sixth time, tying a career high for goals in a season.

The win was the Seals fifth in a row and four on home ice. The five wins in a row is the most of any team in the Southern Professional Hockey League this season.

Tomorrow night the Seals will welcome in the first four members of the Seals Hall of Fame. Join the festivities as Chris LiPuma, Ryan Anderson, David Goverde and Zac Boyer are enshrined. The Seals will finish the four game home stand Tuesday night also against Knoxville. Both games will start at 7:35 pm.
