Florida Seals News Release
[CELEBRATION, Fla.] - Head Coach Tommy Stewart has had success the last two years as a coach and continues to use the players that got his teams into the finals. The Florida Seals, members of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), have signed net minder Terry Denike for the upcoming season.
Denike enters his third year of professional hockey after having a very successful sophomore campaign. After starting the season with the Jacksonville Barracudas, the Burlington, Ont. native was picked up by the Macon Trax and helped guide them to the league finals.
"Terry was stellar in the net for us towards the end of the season." said Stewart, "We got lucky and found him at a good spot when we needed a pick me up in net."
Through two years in the ECHL and SPHL, Denike has appeared in 39 games and posted an 18-15-1 mark including a career high 14 wins last season. In his 19 games with the Trax the 24 year old goalie posted 2.96 goals against average and saved 91.8-percent of the shots he faced. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2001 NHL entry draft.
Going into the season the Seals are looking to feature two number one goaltenders. It is a situation that worked well for Stewart during his rookie coaching campaign two seasons ago.
"I told Terry that I want a goalie situation of 1a and 1b." said Stewart, "With playing so many games back-to-back in this league, I want two have two solid goaltenders that will give us a great chance to win nightly."
