Florida Seals News Release

[KISSIMMEE, Fla.]-The Seals ended their five game losing streak with a six goal output on home ice Wednesday night. Florida took the victory 6-4 in front of a spirited mid week crowd.

The Seals got off to a big first period with two goals near the mid point. Justin Keller got on the board first with a power play goal at 9:14. The Seals wasted no time extending their lead when John Gurskis scored all alone in front of the net just 58-seconds later.

The Seals (14-11-5) had their troubles in the second period giving up their two goal lead. Havoc captain Mike Degurse started the charge with his seventh goal of the season at the 5:12 mark. Luke Phillips took the scoring role, instead of his normal tough guy role, and tied the game 8:50 into the second period. Huntsville (15-11-2) took their first and only lead of the game when Chris Ferguson came off the bench and snuck behind the Seals defense for his second tally in a Huntsville jersey.

Tommy Stewart's squad had seen enough and turned the burners on near the end of the second period. David Deeves scored his eleventh goal of the season, giving Florida the tie on his 27th birthday. With less than a minute remaining in the middle period, Craig Miller sent the Seals to the locker room with the lead on a breakaway. Art Mnatsakanov found Miller across two lines and the Seals assistant captain beat Huntsville goalie Nick Niedert high on the stick side.

The Seals flew out of the gates in the third period. Casey Handrahan lit the lamp for the first time this year on what turned out to be the game winning goal at 1:19. Lawne Snyder continued to be solid on the power play. Deeves found his fellow Barrie, Ont. mate near the blue line and Snyder ripped it to the back of the next to give the Seals a three goal third period lead.

Ryan Brown added his first goal of the season late, to cut the Seals victory to a two goal margin. The win ended Florida's five game winless streak and moved the Seals past the Havoc for fourth place in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Seals will enjoy one day off before a Friday night game against Fayetteville. The puck drops at 7:35 pm and can be seen at www.livesportsnetwork.com/sphl and heard on Talk Radio 1190 WAMT.
