Seals bite Snakes

Florida Seals News Release

[KISSIMMEE, Fla.] -The Seals finished off their long weekend in style with a 3-2 home victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths. Captain Steve Zoryk led the way for Florida with two second period goals.

The game was eerily similar to Thursday's game in Huntsville. The Seals got on the board first with a David Deeves goal. The Cottonmouths came back with two goals of their own taking a one goal lead into the first intermission.

The Seals came out with a vengeance in the second period. Immediately the Seals showed their grit by taking the physicality up a level. Florida threw their weight around hitting the Snakes all over the ice and digging the puck out in the corners.

Steve Zoryk wowed the crows with a breakaway goal at the 7:15 mark. Defenseman Casey Handrahan fired the pass across two lines and hit Zoryk perfectly as Zoryk came off the bench on a well timed line change.

Seven minutes later the Seals would take the lead for good with Zoryk's second goal. Craig Geerlinks started the play as he ran over Columbus forward Lorne Misita. The puck was free in the offensive zone and Zoryk picked it up and put it through goalie Ryan Senft's five hole.

The win gave the Seals their second win in three nights on the ice. It also moved Florida back to the .500 mark at 5-5-4 and into fourth place in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The Seals will travel to Pee Dee Thursday night and Jacksonville Friday night. Florida returns home against the intrastate rivals Saturday night at the Silver Spurs Arena. The first 1,000 fans who arrive for the 7:35 pm puck drop will receive a free Florida Seals trading card set courtesy of First National Bank of Osceola.
