Florida Seals News Release

[CELEBRATION, Fla.] - The Florida Seals took a major step in adding toughness to the roster Monday. Former New Mexico Scorpion and Macon Trax enforcer Andrew Katzberg has been signed to the Seals training camp invitee list.

Katzberg comes to the Seals after spending all of last season with the Scorpions of the Central Hockey League (CHL). The Yorkton, Sask. native appeared in 40 games racking up 230 penalty minutes, eleventh most in the CHL.

"Andrew will certainly add grit and toughness up front," said Head Coach Tommy Stewart. "He learned a lot last year in New Mexico and I am excited to be able to coach him this season."

With the Katzberg signing, the winger becomes the second player to come to the Seals by way of New Mexico. Defenseman Trevor Hammer was also a member of the CHL franchise.

Two years ago Katzberg burst onto the scene as a rookie in the WHA2 with Stewart's Macon Trax. In 2003-04 the 6'2" 210-ponder played in 54 games for the Trax and led the league with 367 penalty minutes and 34 majors.

"I know he will not back down from anyone in this league," said Stewart. "Having a presence like ‘Katzy' on the ice should help create room and protection for our top scorers."

There is sure to be a high number of Katzberg jerseys bearing the number 27 at the Silver Spurs Arena this season. Katzberg became an instant fan favorite for his style of play in New Mexico and Macon over the past two seasons.
