San Diego Loyal News Release

It's one more time on the road for SD Loyal before its home opener May 29 and Donovan's team wants to come away with its first points of the season. Three-straight away matches resulted in three losses. Donovan's team is yet to earn points in the Pacific Division standings but improvement has been shown in each game.

"When you don't see the results, it's hard," Donovan said. "This is a process that we need to go through in order to give ourselves a chance to compete at the highest level against the best teams."

SD Loyal will get that chance to measure what it can do against Louisville City FC, a team considered one of the best in the USL Championship. Louisville City FC is off to an unbeaten start after earning points in each of its last two matches. It is coming off a 1-1 draw against Bermingham Legion FC last week in which it took a lead three minutes into the match but allowed the equalizer in the 60th minute. Pat McMahon scored for Louisville while Naco Brett tied it for Birmingham via a penalty kick.

This is a Louisville team that has recently been one of the league's best under former coach John Hackworth, father of SD Loyal's Morgan Hackworth. John Hackworth and Louisville parted ways after the team's season opener in April. After beating Atlanta United 2, top assistant Danny Cruz was named the interim head coach.

Louisville has been a top program throughout its six-year existence. After taking over in 2018, John Hackworth led Louisville to a USL Championship that year and then guided the club to a finals appearance again in 2019. In 2020, he led the team to an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals.

SD Loyal travels to Kentucky for its first ever match in the Eastern Time Zone to face Louisville City FC in a Week 4 match to be broadcasted on Antenna TV (69.2) and on the Fox 5 San Diego App. The match will also be broadcasted on Azteca 33 in Spanish.

WHAT: The lengthy start on the road comes to an end in Louisville for SD Loyal. This is the fourth-straight road match in 2021 and it's the longest trip for coach Landon Donovan's team before the home opener at Torero Stadium next week.
