Scott Wray Redux
August 27, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage have re-signed left winger Scott Wray, who was on pace for his fourth consecutive 30-goal season last year before missing the final quarter of the campaign due to an injury. The Rage now have 15 players under contract for the upcoming 2008-09 Central Hockey League season.
Wray got off to a torrid start when he registered 40 points through the team's first 20 games last season and was named the CHL's October Player of the Month. He set a single-game team record with six points on Nov. 10 - part of a two-game, 10-point scoring binge - and was one of two Rocky Mountain players along with Brent Cullaton named a starter for the Northern Conference All-Stars.
Wray's season and the team's took a turn for the worse when he suffered a knee injury on Feb. 16 that kept him out of the final 16 games. At the time of the injury, Wray was third in the league with 28 goals and tied for ninth with 61 points overall.
"'Wrayzer' was all we hoped for and more last year before he got injured," said Rage Head Coach and General Manager Tracy Egeland. "Not only his goal scoring ability, but his work ethic and desire to win were sorely missed down the stretch. He's worked very hard re-habbing his knee, and I'm optimistic he'll be ready to go come the start of the season."
"I was recently told I can skate again, and it's going really well and getting stronger every day. I'm just working hard to make sure it's 100% when the season starts," said Wray when asked about his knee.
"I'm excited about our team," he continued. "I feel like we have some unfinished business from last year and expect to go a lot further toward our ultimate goal."
Prior to joining the Rage last season, Wray spent a large chunk of his first nine years as a pro playing for the CHL's Amarillo Gorillas. He helped lead Amarillo to back-to-back appearances in the Southern Conference Finals in 2003-04 and 2004-05 before posting career highs in 2005-06 with 38 goals and 38 assists on the way to his first All-Star Game appearance. In 2006-07, Wray had another All-Star campaign in the United Hockey League where he recorded 74 points (37g-37a) for the Elmira Jackals and Port Huron Flags.
