San Antonio Scorpions News Release

Forward Tomasz Zahorski scored the game-winner to earn the San Antonio Scorpions a third consecutive home victory in defeating FC Edmonton 1-0 on Sunday. The Polish striker's performance earned him the North American Soccer League Player of the Week honors.

The game-winner came in the 40th minute when teammate Javier Saavedra stole possession from Edmonton midfielder Massimo Mirabelli's on the right wing and whipped in a cross that Zahorski expertly guided past goalkeeper Lance Parker with the outside of his foot for his eighth goal of the season.

"Tomasz has proved to be one of the top strikers in this league and has come up big for us once again," said Scorpions interim coach Alen Marcina. "He is an excellent professional both on and off the field with great experience and we are confident he will continue to produce for us."

A native of Barczewo, Poland, who signed with the Scorpions this past July, made his professional debut with Pisa Barczewo in 2004. From 2007-2011, Zahorski made 95 appearances with Gornik Zabrze of the Ekstraklasa (Polish First Division), scoring 23 goals in the process. From 2012 to early 2013, he had stints with German club, MSV Duisburg, as well as with Jagiellonia Bialystok.

The victory ensures the Scorpions have a mathematical hope of reaching the NASL Soccer Bowl provided the Atlanta Silverbacks add the Fall Season title to their Spring Season success and the Scorpions finish as the team with the second-best overall record.

The 28-year-old has also been capped at the full international level with Poland 13 times, making his debut in 2007. He has scored eight goals in just 11 NASL matches.
