New Mexico Scorpions News Release

ALBUQUERQUE -- The New Mexico Scorpions begin their ninth season of professional hockey tomorrow when they visit the Tulsa Oilers. Faceoff at the Tulsa Convention Center is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. MDT. The Scorpions are looking to qualify for the Central Hockey League President's Cup playoffs after narrowly missing out in the 2003-04 campaign. New Mexico posted a 4-0-1 record against the Oilers last year. The Scorpions finish the first weekend of the 2004-05 season by visiting the Wichita Tunder on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. MDT.

Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald announced roster moves made on Thursday to get down to the CHL-imposed limit of 18 players for the regular season opener. Goalie Danny Lorenz was placed on waivers after serving as a special assistant to McDonald during training camp in Corpus Christi, Texas. Defenseman Trevor Hammer and forward Ryan Power were placed on the team's Negotiation List, while defenseman Jim Quilty and forward Marc Bouffard were waived earlier in the week.

The 2004-05 New Mexico Scorpions roster is as follows:

Goalie: Miguel Beaudry, Guy St. Vincent
Defensemen: Erik Adams, Vladimir Hartinger, Sam Miller, Aaron Schneekloth, Ivan Svarny, Daniel Tetrault
Forwards: Peter Ambroziak, Jordan Bianchin, Andrew Katzberg, Shawn Legault, Konrad McKay, Daryl Moor, Randy Murphy, Mike Oliveira, Mike Possin, Clint Wensley

Ambroziak, Legault, Murphy and Oliveira are the team's four veteran players with more than 260 games played. Eight players fall under the CHL's mandatory five developmental players with under 128 pro games played -- Bianchin, Beaudry, Katzberg, Moor, Possin, Schneekloth, St. Vincent, Svarny.

The Scorpions also announced that all of the team's games this season will be broadcast on the Internet on the team's website at www.scorpionshockey.com courtesy of www.broadcastmonsters.com. Mike Sheehan returns for his third season as Voice of the Scorpions. Danny Lorenz will join him as color commentator this weekend.
