Scorpions plan season kickoff party

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League announced today that they will be holding a season-opening kickoff party on Saturday, Oct. 5 at their new offices, 6300 San Mateo Blvd. NE in the Far North Shopping Center from 10 to 5 p.m. There is no admission fee and everyone is invited to attend. Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to pick up their tickets, the Scorpions' inflatable rink will be set up in the parking lot for area kids to give hockey a try and Scorpions players will be on hand to sign autographs.

In addition, the Scorpions Team Store will be holding a Season Kickoff Sale that day. Under the guidance of new Retail Operations Manager Rob Stanley, the Team Store has plenty of Scorpions merchandise available. In addition, the store is an official supplier for Mission Hockey, as roller and ice hockey equipment are available for purchase. Stanley comes to the Scorpions after serving in a similar capacity for Island 1 Sports and Island 1 Marine in Port Aransas, Texas.

"We're excited about the Kickoff Party and our upgraded Team Store," said Scorpions President W.D. "Doug" Frank. "It gives everybody a chance to come out and see our new location, as well as allowing fans their first chance to interact with the 2002-03 edition of the Scorpions.

"With the Team Store, we hope to be able to continue our connection with the community by providing an outlet not only for great Scorpions merchandise, but also to supply area hockey players with quality equipment at reasonable prices."

Scorpions season tickets start as low as $105 and are available NOW by calling the team office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825). The Scorpions open their seventh season on Friday, Oct. 18 as they host the Odessa Jackalopes at Tingley Coliseum on the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Opening Weekend concludes on Saturday, Oct. 19 against Lubbock. Faceoff both nights is 7:05 p.m. Festivities include fireworks, a laser light show and Casino Night, so don't miss the excitement! The Scorpions open training camp on Monday, Oct. 7 at Blades in Rio Rancho.
