New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-New Mexico Scorpions Head Coach Randy Murphy led his troops on the ice for the first time Monday morning. The Santa Ana Star Center ice was fresh and fast and the players were ready to go.

Murphy ran his troops through about two hours of drills on the first day of camp. Overall he was pleased with his team's performance.

"It was exciting for the guys to get out on the ice; obviously there was some rust, but that is expected," said Murphy. "I was looking for hard work and a solid work ethic throughout the session and I was very pleased with the effort I saw."

The Scorpions hopefuls will be back on the ice Tuesday morning for the second day of camp. The training camp schedule will be similar almost everyday. The Scorpions will take to the ice inside the SASC at 9:30 a.m. everyday except Thursday, October 11 and Friday, October 12 when the team will be in Odessa for their lone exhibition game.

All Scorps fans are invited to attend training camp this year. Visitors are asked to park in the lot outside the Suite Entrance doors on the south side of the Santa Ana Star Center.

All spectators to training camp must seat in the "Stinger Zone," located on the suite level in the west end zone. No fans are allowed to be in the seating bowl during camp. The Scorpions staff will be around to assist any fans with questions during training camp practice.

SKIEHAR TO ADD VETERAN PRESENCE

Shawn Skiehar has been added to the Scorps training camp roster. The veteran forward will find a familiar face on the ice in Mike Minard.

The two spent the past two seasons in Europe playing with the Belfast Giants. Skiehar, 29, has played in 497 games over eight professional seasons. The 6'1", 205-pounder is no stranger to throwing his weight around, collecting 1018 penalty minutes while picking up 122 points (49G, 73A).

The Scorpions open the season Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20 versus the Laredo Bucks. Mini-season ticket packages are on sale for as low as $63. When purchasing season ticket packages, each person receives special benefits that are exclusive only to our season ticket holders.
