San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Thursday, December 11, 2014) - The San Antonio Scorpions continue to bring back key players from their 2014 North American Soccer League (NASL) Championship squad as striker César Elizondo's team option for 2015 has been picked up by the club announced Head Coach Alen Marcina and President/General Manager Howard Cornfield this afternoon.

"When we made the move to acquire Elizondo last season, we had high hopes for his ability to have a positive impact on our team as we felt that his talents fit perfectly into our system," said Cornfield. "César clearly met and exceeded our expectations, so I'm pleased he'll help lead our charge to repeat in 2015."

Elizondo came to San Antonio via an early August trade with the Carolina RailHawks for former Scorpions midfielder Danny Barrera. The speedy Costa Rican started all 15 matches he appeared in with the Scorpions and scored five goals and had an assist in addition to the 10 starts and three assists he compiled with Carolina in 2014.

The 26-year-old was named to the NASL's Team of the Week eight times in 2014 and was nominated for the league's Play of the Week twice. He has also earned 10 caps with his national team, most recently in 2011.

Prior to joining the NASL with the RailHawks in 2013, Elizondo played professionally for Saprissa (Costa Rica), Buriram United (Thailand), Municipal Pérez Zeledón (Costa Rica) and Bayamón FC (Puerto Rico).

The Scorpions will defend their championship when the NASL Spring Season kicks off in April of 2015. For information on Scorpions season tickets, call 210-495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
