SAN ANTONIO (September 14, 2015) - San Antonio Scorpions midfielder Rafael Castillo has been named North American Soccer League (NASL) Player of the Week after he scored three goals last week during matches against the Carolina RailHawks and Indy Eleven.

"II'm very happy to be honored as the Player of the Week," Castillo said through an interpreter. "I didn't expect it, but I want to thank the team and God because without them this wouldn't be possible. I'm glad that I was able to help the team earn a few good results because that is what is most important."

Last Wednesday, San Antonio played the Carolina RailHawks to a 3-3 draw at Toyota Field. Castillo scored on a penalty kick in the 56' and was a force on both sides of the ball in midfield. Then Saturday night, Castillo scored both goals in a 2-0 home win over Indy Eleven. He buried another penalty kick in first half stoppage time and then finished a cross from Billy Forbes in the 72nd minute to seal the victory.

"Rafa's importance to the team and role within the squad are invaluable," said Head Coach Alen Marcina. "Throughout the course of the season when moments have arisen that demanded big performances, he has always stepped up and delivered. For these reasons among many, Rafa is incredibly deserving of this award for his dominating display last week and I am happy for him."

Castillo is now tied for fifth in scoring in the NASL with seven on the year and he has also matched his team-leading total from the 2014 regular season. This is the second time in his NASL career that Castillo has been named player of the week; he first received the honor in week nine of the 2014 Fall Season. He is the third Scorpions player to be recognized in 2015, joining Forbes (Spring Season week seven) and Omar Cummings (Fall Season week two). Overall, it is the 16th time a Scorpions player has been given the league's player of the week award: Pablo Campos (5), Billy Forbes (2), Castillo(2), Omar Cummings, Adrian Cann, Walter Restrepo, Jonathan Greenfield, Blake Wagner, Javier Saavedra, and Hans Denisson.

Castillo and the rest of the Alamo City boys will be on the road this week in a match that will have major implications on the Scorpions' chances of making the playoffs as they face the fourth place Tampa Bay Rowdies. The match will be available locally on KSAT 12.2 MeTV and streamed online via ESPN3.

The Scorpions play their next home match Saturday, September 26th, at 7:30pm against the Atlanta Silverbacks. For information on Scorpions tickets call 210-495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
