San Antonio Scorpions News Release
San Antonio, TX (March 1, 2014) The San Antonio Scorpions announced today that the club has received, on loan, goalkeeper David Bingham and midfielder Sam Garza from the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS.
"We thank the San Jose Earthquakes for loaning us David Bingham and Sam Garza, two players with tremendous promise and talent. This further reinforces our goal of bringing MLS caliber players with drive and hunger to succeed," Scorpions Head Coach Alen Marcina said of the transaction.
Bingham, 24, has made five MLS appearances since joining the Earthquakes. The former All-American at the University of California, Berkely also started three of the club's four CONCACAF Champions League group matches and each of San Jose's four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup games since 2012.
Garza, 24, has made 11 MLS appearances in his two years with the Earthquakes. He was San Jose's first-round pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft after a standout college career with UC Santa Barbara. Garza has amassed two goals and six assists in Reserve League action over the last two years and also had a game-winning brace against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
"This is a great opportunity for both of these young players to gain valuable experience," said Earthquakes head coach Mark Watson. "It's important from a player development standpoint to play in games as often as possible. Both Sam and David will get that chance with San Antonio."
