New Mexico Scorpions News Release

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League today announced that they have signed defenseman Shaun Peet for the 2002-03 season. Peet comes to the Scorpions after spending last season with the Greensboro (N.C.) Generals of the East Coast Hockey League, where he was teammates with fellow Scorpions newcomers Leigh Dean and Craig Stahl. In 50 games with the Generals, Peet recorded one goal and seven points along with 87 penalty minutes.

A 26 year-old native of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Peet is entering his fifth professional season. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is no stranger to the old WPHL and the CHL, having begun his pro career in 1998-99 with the Corpus Christi IceRays before joining the now-defunct Macon (Ga.) Whoopee in 2000-01. With Macon, Peet was teammates with current Scorps Chris Richards and Mike Payne. In his career, Peet has averaged 150 PIM per season.

"Shaun Peet is a key addition for the Scorpions," said Scorpions Head Coach/Vice President of Hockey Operations Pat Dunn. "He brings a nasty streak to his game, but more importantly he is a solid stay-at-home defenseman. Shaun will be a great complement to Arturs Kupaks and Mario Dumoulin, who like to rush the puck up the ice."
