San Antonio Scorpions News Release
The San Antonio Scorpions are teaming up with the American FootGolf League (AFGL) to host the first AFGL-certified tournament in Texas. The action kicks off on Sunday, March 23, at 1pm at Alamo City Golf Trail at Willow Springs Golf Course and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Soccer for a Cause.
Scorpions stars Javier Saavedra, Josue Soto and Jeff Jennings will be playing in the tournament accompanied by other Scorpions' players and local celebrities including Rita Verreos and Trisha Frick. The partnership between the AFGL and the San Antonio Scorpions is also the first time in the United States that a professional sports team has been a title sponsor of an official FootGolf tournament.
FootGolf is a fast-growing sport that combines elements of both soccer and golf. Players attempt to kick a ball into a 21-inch-diamater cup in the fewest strokes possible and scorekeeping mimicks golf's. FootGolf courses are shorter than are traditional in golf, but players start from tee boxes, navigate bunkers and other hazards, and then putt on a green. The tournament welcomes twosomes, threesomes or foursomes. To sign up, visit http://www.footgolf.net/san-antonio-open-2014.html
The Scorpions open the 2014 NASL season on April 12th at Toyota Field against Minnesota United FC. For information on Scorpions season tickets call 210-495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
