
Scorpions Beat Bucks 4-3 In Overtime

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico â The Laredo Bucks battled back twice from a two goal deficit and picked up a point as they lost 4-3 in overtime to the New Mexico Scorpions on Saturday night at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vladimir Hartinger scored a pair of goals including the game winner in overtime to power the Scorpions to their season high fifth straight win. The Bucks garnered a point for the 29th time in the last 31 games and are now 36-5-4 with 76 points. Laredo returns home Tuesday against the Austin Ice Bats at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Scorpions capitalized on an early Bucks miscue. Laredo turned the puck over in their slot and New Mexico forward Clint Wensley ripped home a slap shot at 9:29. Later in the period forward Peter Ambroziak ducked down the right wing and skated around the Bucks defense and roofed a shot high glove side on Bucks goalie David Guerrera at 13:46 to make it 2-0 New Mexico.
The Bucks got a power play chance in the second period and capitalized. Laredo forward Chris Grenville slammed home his 29th of the season at 6:12 to cut the deficit to 2-1. It was the third straight game that Grenville has scored. The Scorpions countered right back with a power play goal of their own. Forward Mike Oliveira slipped a great pass backdoor for Hartinger who tipped it into the net at 7:36 to push the Scorpions lead back to two goals.
In the third period the Bucks came out working hard. It finally paid off when Grenville teed up a rocket from the top of the left circle and went top shelf at 8:51. A little over two minutes later the Bucks were shorthanded, but they found a way to tie the game. Forward Steve Simoes jumped ahead, split the defense and pulled the puck from the backhand to the forehand as he shot it into the cage to tie the score at three at 10:55. It was the Bucks CHL leading 14th shorthanded goal of the season and the 13th of the year for Simoes. Neither team was able to score the rest of regulation and the game went to overtime.
In overtime the Scorpions went to work on a power play and capitalized when Hartinger ripped home his second of the night from the high slot to win it 3:35 into sudden death. FINAL SCORE New Mexico 4, Laredo 3 in overtime.
Guerrera allowed four goals on 19 shots to drop to 21-3-2. Miguel Beaudry stopped 42 of 45 shots to get the win and improve to 10-10-1. The Bucks were 1-4 on the power play, while New Mexico was 2-5.

* Forward Patrik Nilson has points in 12 straight games, surpassing his season high off 11 straight to start the year.
