
Scoonie Penn to join Milwaukee Bucks Summer League Squad

ASHEVILLE, N.C., July 9, 2002 ?Altitude point guard James "Scoonie" Penn has been added to the Milwaukee Bucks summer league team which will play an eleven game schedule in Orlando July 9 ?13 and at the Shaw's Pro Summer League in Boston. The Bucks will face summer league teams from the Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic in Orlando, and teams from the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards in Boston. The Bucks game against the Atlanta Hawks will be broadcast on Wednesday, July 17 at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Penn appeared in 28 games for the Altitude, averaging 9.1 ppg, 5.0 apg, 2.8 rpg and 1.6 spg over 28.4 mpg (22 starts). The Altitude signed Penn on January 13th, 2002. Prior to joining Asheville, Penn participated in the 2001 Atlanta Hawks veterans camp and had a brief stint in Rome. He was named the 1999 Big Ten Player of the Year and Big First selection his junior year at Ohio State University. He finished his collegiate career first all-time at OSU in 3-point field goals made (153) and attempted (437) and 33rd in scoring (1,076 points). He is also only the 38th Ohio State player to reach the 1,000-point plateau, and only the second to do so in just two seasons.
