School's in Session: Frost Heaves Basketball Academy to Debut

September 18, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, Vt.-Fresh off an ABA Championship, the Vermont Frost Heaves are introducing the Frost Heaves Basketball Academy next month, to provide Vermont boys and girls in grades 7 through 12 with an advanced instructional experience.

Six two-hour clinics will take place over the first two weekends in October, split between Central Vermont and Chittenden County. Frost Heaves assistant coach Wayne Lafley, founder of Lone Wolf Athletics and the preeminent one-on-one tutor of young basketball players in Vermont, will provide floor leadership for skill sessions, which will feature ABA All-Star Antonio Burks on shooting and former NCAA shot-block champion Antoine Hyman on frontcourt play. In addition, Frost Heaves strength and conditioning coach Scott Caulfield will lead sessions on speed, agility and quickness for basketball, featuring Vermont's B.J. Robertson.

High school coaches who bring at least three players to any clinic will be eligible to listen to a 30-minute chalk talk from Frost Heaves head coach Will Voigt, the ABA Coach of the Year.

"After the great success of our Have-A-Ball Kids Camps over the summer, we want to offer something for older kids," said team president and general manager Alexander Wolff. "Wayne is superb in these kinds of teaching settings, and the players we've chosen to headline each clinic are preeminent in terms of the skills they'll be demonstrating. Plus, we're thrilled to be able to further expose Coach Voigt to coaches at high schools and junior highs throughout the state."

Each clinic will be capped at 40 participants. The cost is $40 per player; any two clinics, $70; or all three, $100. For more information or to reserve a place at any clinic, contact the Frost Heaves' office at 802-860-0082.
