Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte N.C. - The Charlotte Eagles fell to 5-9-2 on the season after losing to the Dayton Dutch Lions 3-1 on Saturday night.

Dayton struck first in the 8th minute when Aaron Schoenfeld took a header and put it in just below the crossbar beating Kann and giving Dayton the lead. Schoenfeld sits in third place in the league for points leaders with 19 points thus far this season.

The Eagles got a good chance to even out the score when Wells Thompson got off a good shot in the 30th minute from the top of the box but it went just over the crossbar missing the net. Right before the half Drew Yates took a cross that almost poked in the top corner of the goal but it was pushed over the bar by Dayton goalkeeper Matt Williams.

Coming back from the half the Eagles got a number of opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net. The Eagles almost evened up the score when Darren Toby took a header off a cross but Williams managed to pin it against the post keeping it out of the net.

Less than five minutes later in the 56th minute Williams got tied up leaving the Dayton net open but their defenders were able to keep the Eagles' shots out. In the 59th minute there was a bit of confusion in front of Dayton's goal and a number of Eagles players had a shot before Johnny Leathers was able to chip it in the goal past Williams giving the Eagles an equalizer.

Aaron Schoenfeld brought the Lions back ahead in the 76th minute when he got yet another header into the net from a free kick by Shintaro Harada. Two minutes later Charlotte goalkeeper Alec Kann was awarded a red card for a tackle on a Dayton player resulting in a penalty kick. Brock Duckworth came into the game in the 79th minute and faced a penalty kick by Dayton points leader Aaron Schoenfeld, Duckworth got tripped up on the kick and Schoenfeld got his third goal of the night giving him a hat trick.

Boggs took a header off a cross by Bilal Duckett and almost brought the gap to one but Williams came up huge with a diving save and punched the ball out. The Eagles were not able to come back from the two-goal gap in extra time and fell to the Lions 3-1.
