Schneider Earns TELUS Monthly Award
March 3, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - Veteran defenceman Braden Schneider has been chosen the TELUS Player of the Month for February.
A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, the 18-year old Prince Albert, Saskatchewan product is enjoying an outstanding season and is expected to be an early pick in this June's National Hockey League Draft.
In twelve games last month, Schneider averaged a point per game, finishing the month with two goals and 12 points.
His play was a key reason for the Wheat Kings recent surge in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division standings. Brandon compiled an 8-2-2-0 record last month to move past Winnipeg and into second place behind the defending champion Prince Albert Raiders.
Schneider, who represented the Wheat Kings in last November's CIBC Canada-Russia Series, is enjoying a career year and enters the final month of regular season play with seven goals and 42 points in 58 games, after scoring 24 points, including eight goals during the entire 2018-19 campaign.
In 183 career WHL games, Braden has scored sixteen goals and 88 points.
Schneider joins Ben McCartney (January), Patera (December), Cole Reinhardt (November) and Ethan Kruger (September/October) as this year's monthly winners of this prestigious award.
This award is presented to the Wheat King, who best demonstrates success - both on and off the ice - as a teammate and role model in the community.
TELUS will present Schneider, who was last year's Brad McCrimmon Memorial Award winner as the club's Top Defenceman, during next Friday's game against the visiting Regina Pats.
In the meantime, Schneider and the Wheat Kings face a big test this weekend as they take on the Raiders in a critical home and home weekend series.
Brandon will travel to Prince Albert on Friday, before returning home to host the Raiders the following night. The Wheat Kings currently trail first place Prince Albert by three points.
Saturday night is the second to last Kids Family Day at Westoba Place. In addition to concession specials and a pre-game party hosted by Jumparoo, children's tickets will be sold at the box office for $5 and for every children's ticket purchased, fans will receive a McDonalds Happy Meal.
Tickets on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
