
Saunders Continues to Build Team for 2003

Rochester Brigade News Release
(Rochester, N.Y.)-Rochester Brigade head coach Mark Saunders announced that he has been assigned veteran DS Tyrea Simmons and rookie WR/DB William Edwards from the arenafootball2 league office.
Simmons, 6'0, 188 lbs., from St. John Fisher College played four games for the Brigade during the 2002 season, where he registered eight solo tackles, four pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble. He was also named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game on May 10, 2002, against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. Simmons played three seasons at Hobart College before transferring to St. John Fisher College for his senior campaign. While at Hobart he registered 109 tackles (70 solo), six for a loss of 20 yards, 22 passes defended and two fumble recoveries in 30 games. At St. John Fisher he recorded 35 tackles (19 solo), one tackle for a loss of four yards and eight pass breakups in nine games.
"Tyrea (Tyrea Simmons) came a long way last season before his serious knee injury," stated Saunders. "I'm very happy he's fully recovered and to have him back, he has a tremendous work ethic and is dedicated to this team."
Edwards, 5'7, 159 lbs., played his collegiate football at Buffalo State University from 1999 to 2002, where he played in 32 games and caught 68 balls for 1,042 yards and eight touchdowns. He also returned 34 punts, averaging 12.2 yards per return with a long of 71 yards and one touchdown.
"Billy (William Edwards) has a lot of talent and I'm looking forward to seeing how he adjusts to the arena game," commented Saunders.
