Sauk Valley Rollers Change Name To Rock River Fury

June 29, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Rockford Fury News Release

Moline, IL. ILLOWA Professional Basketball, Inc. would like to announce that the Sauk Valley Rollers are changing their name to the Rock River Fury. Tom McGinn, President of ILLOWA Professional Basketball, Inc., said that "we needed the change because we are splitting the season between Rockford and the Sauk Valley area. The Rock River runs between the region and is a strong name. The reason we switched to the Fury is that we wanted a more kid friendly nickname. The Rollers nickname came from Hammond and was associated with gambling. We did not want to promote that kind of atmosphere to our younger fans. That is why we never used the logo on merchandise once we moved the team to Sauk Valley."

"We are playing games in Rockford this year," he added, "because it is a great basketball community with even better talent. We feel that there will be 3-5 local players who will make the Fury team this year." For more information, email tom@247directories.com or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
