San Jose's Nelson ties AFL postseason record

NEW YORK - San Jose SaberCats OS BEN NELSON (6-3, 191, St. Cloud State), who was selected the 2006 Rookie of the Year last week, tied the AFL single-game postseason record for touchdowns in San Jose's 62-48 Divisional Round win over Arizona on Saturday.

Nelson tied the record of six touchdowns held by five players, most recently by San Jose's KEVIN MCKENZIE on May 31, 2003 vs. Georgia.

Nelson also hauled in 202 receiving yards, the third-highest single-game total in AFL playoff history. The AFL record for receiving yardage in a postseason game is 239 yards set by Albany's EDDIE BROWN on August 14, 1999 against Arizona.

In the regular season, Nelson led all AFL rookies with 26 touchdowns and posted 94 catches for 1,405 receiving yards, just six yards shy of the highest total by a rookie in AFL history, despite playing in just 11 games. He recorded 100-or-more receiving yards in seven-of-11 games and posted the fourth-highest receiving yardage total of the season with 203 yards on 11 catches against Arizona on April 2.
