San Jose QB Grieb heads list of available AFL free agents

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Aug. 22, 2005) - First-Team All-Arena Football League QB MARK GRIEB is among the 200 free agents eligible to be signed by AFL teams when the free agent signing period begins on September 14.

Grieb, who set an AFL single-season record with 4,796 passing yards in 2005, is one of 17 SaberCats on the 2006 free agent list, which was released by the AFL office today.

Other notable San Jose players on the list include backup QB NICK ROLOVICH, WR/DB BARRY WAGNER, FB/LB MATT KINSINGER, WR/LB SHALON BAKER, K DAN FRANTZ and OL/DL FRANK BEEDE. Teams may begin contacting free agents on August 31.

The AFL's list of free agents includes two former Ironman of the Year (Chad Dukes and Wagner), three former Offensive Player of the Year (Grieb, Wagner and Calvin Schexnayder), a former Defensive Player of the Year (Johnnie Harris), a former Kicker of the Year (Steve Videtich), a former Rookie of the Year (Travis McGriff), two ArenaBowl MVPs (Grieb and Terrill Shaw) and one ArenaBowl Ironman (Wagner) award winners.

Also, former Heisman Trophy runner-up QB Michael Bishop, former All-Arena QBs Sherdrick Bonner and Clint Dolezel and perennial All-Ironman WR/LB Darryl Hammond are eligible.
