San Jose Home of the Stealth
September 16, 2003 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
The San Jose franchise of the National Lacrosse League will be known as the San Jose Stealth. The name and logo was unveiled today at the HP Pavilion by Bay Area Lacrosse Club Managing Director Peter Wendell, National Lacrosse League Commissioner Jim Jennings, General Manager/Head Coach Johnny Mouradian and Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (SVS&E) Executive VP of Business Operations Malcolm Bordelon.
Defined as âAny military technology intended to make vehicles or missiles nearly invisible to enemy radar or other electronic detection,' the Stealth logo features a black ninja holding a lacrosse stick and set in front of a red target circle.
"We are very excited for our first upcoming season in San Jose," Wendell said. "It is our hope that through the use of some great lacrosse and a fun environment for fans, that the Stealth will be a well known name in the Bay Area."
The team also announced the creation of a franchise website at www.sanjosestealth.com. The Stealth will play their inaugural home game on Saturday, January 10th, hosting the Colorado Mammoth at 7:30pm local time.
The Stealth also announced that General Manager Johnny Mouradian will assume head coaching duties for the team as well.
The Stealth also received a word of welcome from across the Bay. Eric Musselman, head coach of the Golden State Warriors, said "I'd like to say welcome to the Stealth to the Bay Area and wish the best of luck for a great future in San Jose," said Musselman in a prepared statement.
The League officially announced the relocation of the former Albany Attack franchise to the city of San Jose, California and HP Pavilion at San Jose earlier this year. The San Jose Stealth is owned by a partnership consisting of three entities: SVS&E and the San Jose Sharks, The Bay Area Lacrosse Owners Group, led by San Francisco businessman Peter Wendell, and a group of Canadian investors, led by Toronto businessman John Bergsma. SVS&E serves as the business and marketing arm of the San Jose Sharks.
