Giants Begin Three-Game Series Against Inland Empire Tonight The San Jose Giants open a seven-game homestand tonight with the first of three straight contests against the Inland Empire 66ers at Municipal Stadium. Jordan Johnson is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants this evening. Following the series against the Sixers, San Jose welcomes Rancho Cucamonga for a four-game set beginning on Thursday. At the conclusion of the homestand, the Giants will enjoy their three-day All-Star break.

Split In Modesto The Giants split four games in Modesto in a series that concluded yesterday. San Jose earned victories of 7-2 in the series opener last Thursday and 2-1 in 11 innings yesterday afternoon. The Nuts posted back-to-back wins on Friday and Saturday of 4-2 and 10-5 respectively. The series marked the conclusion of the Giants' first half road schedule. San Jose ends the half with a 20-15 road record.

Extra, Extra Yesterday marked only the third extra-inning game for the Giants this season (2-1 record). Last year, San Jose played in a league-high 22 extra-inning contests (11-11).

June Swoon The Giants are only 4-7 in June after posting a league-best 21-9 record during May. San Jose enters tonight's action having dropped six out of their last eight games. The Giants are looking to snap a season-high four-game home losing streak. San Jose was swept in a four-game set by the Bakersfield Blaze in their most recent home series (June 4-7). It was only the second time in the last five seasons that the Giants were swept in a four-game series at home.

Four Giants Named To California League All-Star Team Four San Jose Giants - starting pitcher Sam Coonrod, shortstop C.J Hinojosa, relief pitcher Rodolfo Martinez and first baseman Chris Shaw - were named to the California League All-Star team last week. The quartet will participate in the California-Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 21 in Lake Elsinore. Coonrod is second in the league with a 1.98 ERA over 11 starts this season (5-3 record). Hinojosa ranks third in the Cal League in batting average (.322) and third in on-base percentage (.409). Martinez boasts a league-best 17 saves to go with a sparkling 0.70 ERA. Shaw is third in home runs (13), third in slugging (.545), tied for first in RBI's (47) and tied for fourth in doubles (18). Hinojosa (SS) and Shaw (1B) have been named All-Star Game starters.

Versus The South The Giants are 10-7 against the South Division this season. In their only previous meeting versus Inland Empire this year, San Jose split a four-game series in San Bernardino (April 14-17).

Bednar's Hitting Streak At Eight Games Infielder Brandon Bednar brings an eight-game hitting streak into tonight's contest. Bednar is batting at a .333 clip (11-for-33) during the streak with one home run and four RBI's. Bednar hit a game-winning solo home run in the top of the 11th inning yesterday afternoon in Modesto.

Late Innings The Giants are one of only two teams in the California League (Inland Empire) that has not won a game this season when trailing after seven innings (0-24). Conversely, San Jose has only one loss this year when leading after seven innings (33-1).

First Half Race The Giants (35-27) are six games behind Visalia (41-21) for the top spot in the first half North Division race. Including tonight, eight games remain in the half. San Jose moved into a tie with the Rawhide after defeating Visalia on June 3. Since, the Giants have lost six out of eight games while the Rawhide have won eight straight. San Jose last won a first half title in 2013. The Giants won a league-record seven consecutive first half championships from 2005-2011.

Opponent Notes: Inland Empire 66ers The Inland Empire 66ers, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, own the worst record in the California League at 20-43. The Sixers have lost five games in a row and 10 out of their last 12. Inland Empire is last in the league in batting average (.231) and runs scored (3.6 per game) while their ninth in ERA (4.76). The 66ers are 10-18 on the road this season (10-25 at home).
