September 23, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, September 23, 2013) - San Jose Earthquakes forward Steven Lenhart was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 30 of the 2013 MLS season.

Steven Lenhart gave the San Jose Earthquakes their second road win of the season Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Lenhart scored both goals in a span of four minutes to secure his team a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake.

In the 18th minute, Cordell Cato sent a driven cross to the top of the penalty spot where Lenhart headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after Real Salt Lake tied the match 1-1, Lenhart reclaimed the lead for the Earthquakes. Shea Salinas' quickly taken free kick in the 21st minute found Lenhart goal side his defender and he headed home the ball to the bottom right corner of the net.

The San Jose Earthquakes are back in action Sunday, September 29 when they face Chivas USA at the StubHub Center (11:00 p.m. ET, UniMás).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
