San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls had yet another record breaking year off the ice in 2005-06, as the ECHL club helped raise more than $280,000 for local charities and other community outreach programs. That breaks the previous record from last year by more than $20,000

Last season the Gulls helped raise about $260,000, which was about $28,000 more than now the third highest total set in 2003-04. The $280,000 total for 2005-06 is almost an eight percent increase from 2004-05 and more than a 20 percent increase from 2003-04.

Leading the way again this season was the amount raised for fundraiser programs throughout the San Diego community. Through fundraising ticket and "Chuck-A-Puck" sales, the Gulls alone helped raise almost $180,000.

The "Pink in the Rink" jersey auction drew the next highest total at $27,100. Proceeds from this event, which took place on Feb. 25, benefited the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. Another $20,000 was raised at the 15th annual "Tip-A-Gull" event, held on March 5 at Dick's Last Resort.

The Blue and Orange also raised more than $7,000 combined for San Diego's youth hockey program and the Building Industry Association of San Diego County.

In addition, about $50,000 worth of Gulls tickets, signed jerseys, signed sticks and other team memorabilia were also donated throughout the San Diego community.
