SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Stars have re-signed guard Sydney Colson for the 2016 WNBA season, Stars Head Coach and General Manager Dan Hughes announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"I am very excited to get the opportunity to stay in San Antonio with the Stars," said Colson. "Individually I have worked hard to improve so I can contribute to the team when called upon. As a team, we are ready to get back to work and I am thrilled to be a part of it."

In 2015, Colson spent her first season with the Stars, appearing in 34 games while averaging 3.5 points, 2.8 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 15.9 minutes. In her WNBA career with the Stars and the New York Liberty, Colson has appeared in 50 games, averaging 2.8 points and 2.1 assists in 12.5 minutes.

The former Texas A&M guard was originally selected in the second round (16th overall) by the Connecticut Sun in the 2011 WNBA Draft. With the Aggies, Colson played with current Stars forward Danielle Adams and was part of the 2011 National Championship team. That year Colson averaged 6.1 assists, which ranked in the Top 10 nationally.

Colson is also currently an assistant coach for the Women's Basketball team at Rice University with head coach Tina Langley. Colson joined Rice in 2015 after previously serving as the video coordinator of the Women's Basketball program at Texas A&M University.

The Stars tip-off the 2016 season, presented by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa and H-E-B, at the AT&T Center on Saturday, May 14 against the Atlanta Dream at 7 p.m. Ticket plans for the upcoming season are now available.
