San Antonio Stars News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - San Antonio FC fell 1-0 against Colorado Springs Switchbacks at Switchbacks Stadium on Saturday after a goal from Martin Maybin gave the home team a win. SAFC players Miguel Salazar and Biko Bradnock-Brennan made their professional debuts during the match.

The goal came in the 59th minute when SAFC goalkeeper Josh Ford was caught off guard by an awkward bounce that left Maybin alone against an open net. Despite quality chances throughout the half, the visitors were unable to find an equalizer.

The Switchbacks started off the match with an attacking mindset, testing San Antonio early on as they forced goalkeeper Josh Ford to make an important save. The home team capitalized on the resulting corner, but their goal was disallowed due to an offside call.

SAFC had a couple of dangerous attempts in the first half, the first of which came in the 25th minute when midfielder Carlos Alvarez found himself one-on-one against substitute goalkeeper Billy Thompson, but the keeper used his large frame to parry away the shot. Alvarez was denied again in the 44th minute after he tested Thompson with a volley from inside the box.

San Antonio FC players Miguel Salazar and Biko Bradnock-Brennan both made their professional debuts for the club. Salazar, a midfielder, formerly played for Elon University, and came on for Rafa Castillo in the 72nd minute. Bradnock-Brennan made his first appearance just moments later when the ex-UNC Charlotte defender came on for Stephen McCarthy.

SAFC will return to action at home on April 30 when they host Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Toyota Field after concluding a three-match road trip that also saw the team face LA Galaxy II and OC Blues along with the Switchbacks. The match will be the second time SAFC plays at home after a sold out home opener against Swope Park Rangers on April 9.
