SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC beat Tulsa Roughnecks FC 3-1 at Toyota Field on Saturday night. Goals from Shawn Chin, Rafa Castillo and Jason Johnson gave the team a victory in their second home match in club history in front of 7,837 fans.
The first goal of the night came in the 38th minute when Chin was played in on goal by a through ball from midfielder Carlos Alvarez. The forward cut the ball inside past a defender and slotted it into the net.
Tulsa responded about ten minutes later when Sammy Ochoa took the ball down the flank and sent a pass across the box to find forward Kaleem, who tapped it past SAFC goalkeeper Josh Ford for the equalizer. The first half ended with the score level 1-1.
Midfielder Rafa Castillo recovered the lead for SAFC in the 68th minute when he rocketed a shot from outside the box past the diving keeper. In the final minutes of the match, forward Jason Johnson capped off the victory with a chip over the defense and goalkeeper, earning San Antonio three crucial points.
The match was only the second home game in franchise history for SAFC after a sold out home opener on April 9th. Supporter turnout for SAFC was high again this week, with attendance at Saturday's match against the Roughnecks nearing 8,000.
"The fans make it an exciting place to be," Head Coach Darren Powell said. "We've got a couple of guys getting cramps towards the end, and that crowd just lifted them those last ten minutes. The crowd helps them do that."
San Antonio FC earned three important points at home after recording a tie and two losses in their last three away matches. The team will look to continue their winning streak at home on Saturday, May 7 when they host Rio Grande Valley FC at Toyota Field. The match will be the first encounter between the South Texas rivals.
