
Samson and Lafleur win TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 22, 2007 - Val-d'Or Foreurs forward Jérôme Samson and PEI Rocket goaltender Antoine Lafleur were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 15 to 21.
In three games, Samson collected six goals, including four on the power-play, and three assists. Moreover, he had a hand in 50% of the team's goals over the course of the week. His best performance came last Saturday as he registered his 30th and 31st goals of the season, while adding two helpers, in an 8-4 win over the Mooseheads. He also collected first star honors. The Foreurs sit in first place in the TELUS division standings, four points ahead of the Gatineau Olympiques.
Viatcheslav Trukhno (1-6-7) of the Olympiques, Martin Bartos (2-3-5) of the Titan and Toby Lafrance (3-1-4) of the Tigres were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to PEI Rocket netminder Antoine Lafleur. In two starts, he registered two wins, including a shutout, while maintaining a 0.50 goals-against-average and .980 save percentage. Lafleur helped the Rocket defeat the Screaming Eagles 3-1 last Friday by making 27 saves. Moreover, he was named the game's first star. The following night, he registered his second shutout of the season by blocking 22 shots in a 4-0 win over the Fog Devils. His goals-against-average (2.74) is second amongst league goaltenders behind only Jonathan Bernier (2.63) of the Lewiston MAINEiacs.
Defensemen Martin Fréchette (1-4-5; +4) of the Olympiques and Ivan Vishnevskiy (1-2-3; +2) of the Huskies, as well as goaltender Ondrej Pavelec (1-1-0; 124 MIN; 1.45 GAA; .942 SAV%) of the Screaming Eagles were also considered.
