Sammy Sosa Rehabbing At Pringles Park

In an announcement made by the National League Central Division Champion Chicago Cubs, OF Sammy Sosa will be making a rehabilitation assignment with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, the Double-A affiliate of the Cubs.

Sosa will begin his three day rehab assignment with the Diamond Jaxx on Sunday, June 13th at 1:05 p.m. when the Diamond Jaxx take on the Birmingham Barons at Pringles Park. Sosa will stay in Jackson with the Diamond Jaxx and play in the Monday and Tuesday night games against Birmingham. Both games will start at 7:05 p.m.

Sosa has not been in the Cubs line-up since being placed on the fifteen day disabled list with a sprained ligament in his lower back on May 19th. Prior to the injury, Sosa was hitting .291 with ten homers and twenty-four RBI's. He last appeared in a minor league game as part of a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa in 1992.

Sosa is the only player in the history of major league baseball to hit 60+ home runs in three seasons. He is also one of only nineteen players to hit 500 home runs in a career. Sosa is 9th on the all-time home run list with 549 round trippers.

In 1998, Sosa and Mark McGwire helped revitalize baseball with a memorable assault on the home run record held at the time by the late Roger Maris. Although Sosa fell four home runs short of McGwire's seventy home run season, both he and McGwire were the reason why the fans came back to the ballparks.

There is not a day that goes by at Pringles Park that we don't hear about the home run Sammy hit near I-40 during the Cubs exhibition game with the Diamond Jaxx three years ago. Now the people of West Tennessee will have a chance to see him up close as we make our run for the first half championship."

Tickets for Sammy Sosa's three game rehabilitation appearance at Pringles Park or any of the other games left in the current six game homestand are available by calling the Diamond Jaxx Box Office at (731) 988-5299. Fans can also purchase their tickets at Pringles Park. The Box Office is open during the homestand at 9 a.m. and stays open to thirty minutes at the conclusion of the Diamond Jaxx game.
