Brian Whitaker named League Pitcher of the Week

Mobile, AlâMobile BayBears' Pitcher Brian Whitaker was named BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the week for June 4-June 10. Whitaker went 2-0 for the week, giving up just two earned runs in 16 innings of work. Allowing nine hits, Whitaker struck out 11 while walking three batters. Whitaker's two wins this week has helped Mobile catch West Tenn in the Southern League Western Division Race.
This season Whitaker is 4-3 with a 2.86 ERA. He has allowed only 16 earned runs in 50 innings of work this season and has struck out 36 batters since being promoted to Mobile from Lake Elsinore on May 4th.
Whitaker becomes the third straight BayBear to be named Pitcher of the Week by the Southern League. Chris Rojas (May 21-May 27) and Tim Stauffer (May 28- June 3) have earner this honor in the previous two weeks. This marks the first time in BayBears team history that the Southern League Pitcher of the Week honor has been given to three consecutive Mobile pitchers.
