Sam Querrey Leads Kastles Charge at Wimbledon

Querrey Becomes First American Man in Grand Slam QF Since 2011

Bryan Brothers, Martina Hingis Roll in Doubles Draws

Sam Querrey's upset over Novak Djokovic headlined a weekend that saw six Kastles players advance in their respective Wimbledon draws. The Bryan Brothers, Martina Hingis, Leander Paes and Anastasia Rodionova joined Querrey in making the second week at the All-England Lawn and Tennis Club.

It promises to be an exciting week and as the Wall Street Journal wrote today about the prospects of a Sam Querrey Wimbledon Title, you never know what can happen!

Sam Querrey followed up his monumental upset of Novak Djokovic in the third round with a 6-4, 7-6, 6-4 win over grass court specialist Nicolas Mahut in the fourth round to book his ticket into the quarterfinals.

Despite a 1-2 career record against Mahut who had beaten him just a few weeks earlier in the Netherlands, Querrey once again used his now-famous serve to power his way past the frenchman with 23 aces.

After losing the first two sets of his first round match against Lukas Rosol, Querrey has dropped only one set in his last three matches against Bellucci, Djokovic, and Mahut. He also leads all active players in aces for the tournament, with a mind-blowing 97 through the first four rounds.

In the quarterfinals, Querrey will play sixth-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic. Raonic defeated David Goffin in a tough five-set match in the fourth round, coming back after being down two sets to love to win 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Raonic and Querrey last faced each other at Wimbledon in 2012, with Querrey beating a then up-and-coming Raonic in four tough sets in the second round. Another big server, Raonic and Querrey will both try impose their will on the other by dominating their service games.

In addition to Querrey in the singles draw, Kastles players have been finding a lot of success in the doubles draws.

The three-time Wimbledon Champion Bryan Brothers advanced to the third round after defeating Malek Jaziri and Lukas Rosol 6-3, 6-4. The duo will look to continue their momentum as they take on No. 14 seeds Radek Stepanek and Nimod Zimonjic.

The Bryans have a long history with Stepanek: it was Stepanek who teamed up with Kastles Captain Leander Paes to deny the Bryans a Calendar Year Grand Slam at the 2013 US Open. Stepanek also teamed up with Paes to defeat the Bryans in the 2012 Australian Open final.

Tomorrow's match against Stepanek and Zimonjic marks the first time this tournament the Bryans will be on Centre Court. They are scheduled to go on third, and should begin play around 11 am EST.

Joining the Bryans in the second week of doubles is the World No. 1 duo of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza. Facing Christina McHale (New York Empire) and Jelena Ostapenko in the third round, the duo dropped only a single game in route to a 46-minute, 6-1, 6-0 thrashing. The defending champions have yet to drop a set as they've breezed their way into the quarterfinals.

In addition to advancing in the Ladies Doubles draw, Martina Hingis also continued her legendary partnership with Kastles teammate Leander Paes in the Mixed Doubles draw. The duo, seeking their fifth Grand Slam as partners, defeated Artem Sitak and Laura Siegemund in the second round yesterday 6-4, 6-4. They await the winner of Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson against Bruno Soares and Elena Vesnina in the third round. Hingis and Paes are the defending Mixed Doubles Champions at the All-England Lawn and Tennis Club.

Hingis and Paes are not the only Kastles finding success in the Mixed Doubles draw. Anastasia Rodionova and partner Rohan Bopanna (who will partner with Leander Paes at the Rio Olympics) advanced to the second round with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Treat Huey and Alicia Rosolska.

Rodionova and Bopanna take on the Columbian duo of Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Mariana Duque-Marino today in the second round. The match is scheduled fourth on Court 18 and should begin around 1 pm EST.
