CHICAGO - The Chicago Red Stars attacker Sam Kerr has been voted NWSL Player of the Month for May for the 2019 season by the NWSL Media Association. Kerr saw action in three matches in the month before reporting for training with the Matildas, leading the league in goals scored at six, and with a league-high number of shots on goal at 14.
Kerr, named to April's Team of the Month, was goalless in Week 4, with three shots on goal, in Chicago's loss to the Utah Royals FC.
However, as Week 5's Player of the Week, Kerr scored two goals and notched one assist in the Red Stars' 3 to 1 win over the North Carolina Courage.
And, Kerr again scored a brace in action in Week 6, leading the Red Stars to a 2 to 1 victory over the Houston Dash.
Utah Royals FC attacker Amy Rodriguez finished second in the Player of the Month voting, and Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe finished third.
The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
