Reading Express News Release
Reading Express GM/Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski announced today that he has re-signed Sam Bryant, former Reading High Red Knight and University of Pitt star and Express starter until a season ending injury in week two.
"The season was starting out on a great note, a home opener sell out of 7004 fans, our two top recruits having great games. Yardon Brantley has 10 receptions and Sam Bryant has an interception in the end zone. An opening night win and trip south coming up. In the first ten minutes of that next game both players' seasons changed. Yardon catches a 25 yard post pattern, gets tackled and breaks his shoulder. Next series, Sam picks off his second pass in the end zone and instantly goes down. A season ending Achilles injury. Long story short, Yardon came back nine weeks later and finished the season strong. Sam on the other hand did what our Head Medical Trainer from CATC, John Howell considered amazing. Sam went thru Achilles surgery and started the slow road to recovery. However, for this kid there is nothing slow. He worked harder than any injured player we have ever had. Sam is well over five months ahead of schedule with his recovery. He is back to full speed and also doing what he loves doing , coaching football and teaching at Reading High School and getting ready to put his Express uniform back on and continue his football career.
"I am so proud of this kid and my hat goes off to him for the amount of work he put in to getting back to 100% from this injury. I also can not say enough about our medical team at CATC and the job they did with Sam. He is an awesome player. He is fast, smart, a hitter and he can cover one on one. At 6' and 205lbs, he understands the game and I am thrilled to have him back in my secondary," explained Nowotarski.
