Salamanders Outlast SwampDogs

June 30, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.--A pitcher's duel turned into a marathon as the Holly Springs Salamanders edged the Fayetteville SwampDogs in a 2-1, 15 inning engagement that included a rain delay in its four and a half hour duration.

Starter Nick Yobbi (USC-Aiken) allowed just two runs over seven innings and was backed up out of the bullpen by David Marriggi's (Towson) seven scoreless innings but neither was able to earn a decision.

Trey Vickers (Wichita State) drove in both of the SwampDogs runs with a single in the third and a sacrifice bunt in the fifth. But the offense fell flat in support of the outstanding pitching efforts.

Danny Sheehan's (San Diego State) two-run homer in the first inning was the only offense all night for the Salamanders before Michael Sconzo (Charleston Southern) plated the game winning run in the 15th.

The SwampDogs fall into a tie with the Salamanders for 5th place in the Western Division with identical records of 10-15. The 'Dogs continue the three-game swing on the road against the Savannah Bananas on Friday at 7:05pm.
