Saints Trade for Big Hitting First baseman

ST. PAUL, MN (February 19, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints have signed a number of pitchers during this off-season, but on Tuesday they went out and traded for a position player getting first baseman Jason Colson from the Brockton Rox for a player to be named later.

The 29-year-old Colson spent the last two-plus seasons with the Calgary Vipers of the Northern League. Last season he hit .290 with 16 homers and a league leading 89 RBI in 96 games. Colson walloped 25 doubles, two triples, scored 67 runs, slugged .487 and had an on base percentage of .366. Colson was traded to the Rox during this off-season.

"Jason is coming off a solid season," said Saints manager George Tsamis. "It will be nice to have a big left-handed bat in the middle of our order."

Colson was drafted in the seventh round of the 2001 June Amateur draft by the Toronto Blue Jays out of Winthrop. He spent three seasons in the Blue Jays organization as a pitcher and compiled a 3-10 record with a 4.35 ERA.

During his three seasons in independent ball he has amassed a .285 career average with an average of 12 homers and over 60 RBI a season.

The Saints placed outfielder Adam Bourassa on the inactive list. He has taken a scouting position with the Boston Red Sox. They have also released infielder Skip Adams.

The Saints have officially signed eight players, six pitchers and two position players. They can carry a maximum of 22 players on their roster during the regular season.
